Tips to keep heart safe
Taking care of your heart is the single most important thing you can do to take care of yourself. A healthy heart begins with a healthy diet. It is vital that what you eat is good for the health of your heart.Too much saturated fat, alcohol, oils, sugar, and refined flours can cause severe heart damage leading to arrhythmia, heart disease, heart attack, and stroke. Fortunately there are ways to protect and strengthen your heart, which lead to a happy and more fulfilled life.
Diet
The first thing to do when examining heart health is to look at your diet. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables is essential to good heart health because they contain high levels of vitamins and minerals which enrich the blood. Blood that is full of nutrients is pumped through the heart and the heart benefits from it.Fruits and vegetables are also high in fiber and low in calories. Stir fries and salads are optimal choices to get the amount of fruits and vegetables needed daily. Stick with whole grains such as quinoa, barley, and brown rice. Whole grains regulate blood pressure, which allows the heart to work regularly. An overworked heart will become damaged, leading to undesired health problems.
Fats
Fats
Fats are important in the diet, but the type of fat to consume is more important. It is essential to limit saturated fats when you are taking care of your heart. Red meat has a high level of saturated fat, fast food has high levels of trans fat and cholesterol. It is wise to prepare home made meals that include mono saturated fats such as olive and canola oil.Stay away from solid fats such as bacon fat, lard, butter, margarine, and shortening. These fats can cause damage to the heart and do not aid in healing.
Exercise
Another component to heart health is daily exercise. It is important to engage in at least 30 minutes a day of exercise to get the blood moving through the muscles of the body. If walking is not available to you, try swimming or even bicycling. These activities get the body moving in a way that benefits the heart.Yoga is also good for heart health as it lowers blood pressure and stress. Meditative activities such as Qigong and Tai Chi also provide avenues to stress reduction, resulting in a healthier heart. A vitamin rich diet alongside a healthy exercise routine that includes stress reduction is an excellent combination to insure heart health for years to come.
